"The ability to control fire was a dramatic change in the habits of early humans. Making fire to generate heat and light made it possible for people to cook food, increasing the variety and availability of nutrients. The heat produced would also help people stay warm in cold weather, enabling them to live in cooler climates. Fire also kept nocturnal predators at bay." I even heard that It was our great ancestors use of fire to tenderize food that allowed us to enlarge our brains now that the need for such huge jaw muscles were no longer needed.
"People born under the astrological signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are thought to have dominant fire personalities. Fire personalities are believed to have good leading qualities, and also tend to be extroverted, rebellious, passionate and enthusiastic, brave and valiant; however, they can also be moody, hot-tempered, snappy, uncontrollable and angry."
Now imagine being able to hold that power in your hand, or better yet, keep it in your pocket. Centuries ago the mere idea of this would probably have you burned at the stake for sorcery. Now it is mere commonplace, but to me it still holds a very mystical quality. "Creating fire can be a tedious process. Eventually, humans began to use earthenware vessels, or fire pots, in which slow-burning fires could by kept alight indefinitely by adding small quantities of fuel as needed. Nomadic people could carry these small fires with them, using them to start larger fires for their evening camps. Fire pots were in use at least 10,000 years ago."
In regaurds to survival, Fire is always on the top 3. Why might you ask?
- Boiling water to make it safe to drink.
- Cooking wild foods to make them more palatable and digestible.
- Providing heat for comfort if the temperature is too low.
- Quickly lighting a brush fire that will create a lot of smoke or light for a signal
Theres a ton of ways to start a fire, and so many people say "carry matches" in a survival set up.. but honestly FUCK THAT. It's way easier starting a fire with a lighter. period.
"Besides, during a wilderness survival adventure or a "hard times event" you really don't need to be investing your time and energy in trying to start a fire. You will already have enough stress and pressure in your life from a multitude of other sources. You will also have far more important things you could be doing instead of trying to start a fire using a primitive method."
